This is my second T-Rex. My first was a V2 mechanical mix 450X. I was far more impressed with the CCPM version than I was with the V2 MPM. The controls are very precise even with the plastic stock head on it. This heli flies so well that for the average beginner to even beginning 3D flyer will not need any upgrades, although they sure look nice!
For my setup, I used HS55 servos for the collective/cyclic and an HS50 on the tail. I have used a couple of different gyros with this setup, a GY401 by Futaba and a JR G500T. Both worked well with this configuration, I do lean a bit towards the JR. It just seems to hold a tad better, but the GY401 is still a very good choice for this heli because of it's size. Another main reason I went with the G500t as my preference is the fact that it has a metal case and will stand up better in the unfortunate event of a crash. I had a 401 ruined in one such event. If you're giong to get creative, there are much safer places to mount the gyro but with no modifications, the tail boom mount is the best spot for it.
For the motor, I used an Align 430L 3550Kv motor. So far, no complaints but it does get quite toasty, so I'd recommend getting the heat sink for it as well to extend the service life.
My Speed controller was a Phoenix 35A. This is a very nice controller and offers a lot of flexibility to tune it to your needs.
OK...now onto flying! The controls are cery crisp and precise. The average guy will want some expo on the cyclic to tame down the hover, but it is very stable when set up correctly. beginner will possibly want some weights for the flybar, this version did not come with them. Around 15-20% expo will do. Flips and rolls are very fast and so is it's forward flight. This little rocket moves! I'm by no means a 3D pilot, so I can't comment on that, but I've seen this heli do some amazing stuff! One big drawback is it's size. Orientation at distances will sometimes be a challenge. If you want a 400 size electric though, this is to be expected. Just don't let it get too far from you! |

• Flies as well as it's bigger brothers but responds twice as fast! |
• Could use more mounting surfaces for electronics. • Manual could be a bit more descriptive on servo horn length. |
